Sustainability
in South Styria
At the Ratscher Landhaus, we can enjoy the wonderful nature park region of South Styria all year round. Preserving this nature, which gives us so much, is very important to us.
Enjoy a sustainable holiday in Austria.
With nature - for nature!
Sustainability at the Ratscher Landhaus – our photovoltaic system generates 44,000 kW of electricity, the wood chip heating comes from our own forest, and we make your holiday more environmentally friendly by recycling, saving water and using energy-efficient lighting. Conscious enjoyment – sustainable relaxation!
Our measures for the environment!
- Our photovoltaic system generates 44,000 KW of emission-free electricity every year. This corresponds to the annual consumption of eight single-family homes.
- We run the wood chip heating of our sustainable wellness hotel with resources from our own forest.
- Waste is recycled and our used cooking oil is processed into biodiesel by the Münzer company
- We reduce our water consumption and make your holiday in Austria more sustainable by consciously exchanging towels instead of towels for free use in the Wellness Area and in the rooms.
- Modern LED lamps and customised lighting systems ensure maximum energy efficiency.
- We do not use table linen in our restaurant, thus reducing water consumption and the use of cleaning agents.
- The room cleaning with dry steamers reduces the consumption of cleaning agents.
- Paper savings in everyday office life thanks to digitalisation! Guest folders are no longer printed, instead information is provided via our guest app.
- The flow rate of water taps has also been reduced.
For people - with people
with people!
Ratscher Landhaus creates jobs for the region and focusses on sustainability in training. We strengthen the future of the catering industry by promoting apprenticeships, further training and regional employment. We are also socially committed – with charity projects and healthcare.
Social sustainability on the Wine Route
Creating jobs for employees from the region and a great passion for youth development!
- Promoting young people by training them: Apprentice training is very important to us. We can only get good skilled workers through excellent training. You can see from our apprentice successes that we also take action. Our apprentices diligently and successfully take part in apprentice competitions. We create our regional skilled labour in the form of good training – that is sustainable.
- We don’t just support apprentices! The “Gastrovibes” project, which was founded by Michaela Muster, introduces pupils from the region to the valuable job in tourism on their doorstep.
- As a regional employer, we offer our employees not only seasonal but also annual positions.
- The short journey to work is not only environmentally sustainable, but also socially sustainable. Because without long commutes, there is more free time.
- Further training and courses are always on the agenda for the team at Ratscher Landhaus.
- Employee benefits at Ratscher Landhaus – shared use of resources in the Wellness Area, fitness centre and much more.
- Electric cars as employee vehicles are available to our department heads.
- Water is our most precious commodity. We only realise how valuable it is when it is not of drinking water quality. In only 57 out of 195 countries worldwide is the water from the tap of drinking water quality. That’s not exactly a lot. We are among the lucky ones. However, we Austrians just take it for granted. The service of serving water at the table with a smile makes it even more valuable. We donate this contribution of 2 euros per bottle to our charity partner – Steirer mit Herz!
- Corporate health care workshops through the Austrian Health Care Organisation
- The Ratscher Landhaus is family-run. Michaela and Andreas Muster put their heart and soul into running the hotel. The next generation is already in the starting blocks. This ensures its sustainable use.
With the region -
for the region!
South Styria is strongly committed to regional sustainability: by promoting regional suppliers and prioritising short transport routes, we protect the environment and strengthen the local economy. This close connection not only promotes the quality and freshness of the products, but also strengthens the sense of community. Every purchase and every decision in favour of local products contributes to making our region more sustainable and a better place to live. Together, we show that conscious action and regional ties point the way to a sustainable future.
Regional sustainability in South Styria
- Regional food that comes fresh and in the best quality without long transport routes into the pots and pans from producers we trust!
- The Ratscher Landhaus is open seven days a week. This means that a restaurant, a bar and the hotel are open every day for guests and locals. A valuable contribution to the infrastructure in South Styria.
- The most precious asset in South Styria is nature. The animal and plant world should be preserved in order to maintain an ecological balance. The “Blühwiese” project will start in spring 2024. 15,000 m2 of floral splendour, a paradise of biodiversity and a “bee pasture” as an important food source for bees will be created. Michaela and Andreas Muster are consistently moving towards a green future with their Ratscher Landhaus.
- Art and culture as part of our lives. Every year, we offer our hotel premises as a stage for regional artists. Annual exhibitions and vernissages bring art to South Styria
- Herbs are grown in our herb gardens around the house!
- Jams are homemade from the fruits of the season!
Sustainability in our hotel
This is why sustainability is pursued in all areas of the hotel – from energy production to food.
We utilise the many hours of sunshine in the south of Styria as well as the fertile soils of our region and the renewable resources of our forests. However, a sustainable wellness hotel also requires the will to economise. However, we do not save on enjoyment, cosiness and comfort, but on unnecessary water and energy consumption.
Our goal is your sustainable holiday with plenty of enjoyment and relaxation.
- Rainwater – which is a lot due to the high amount of rainfall in South Styria – is collected in a well and used to water the green areas and plants
- The kitchen also works sustainably. And since the kitchen is brand new, the latest technologies enable energy efficiency
- Room cleaning not necessary Our guests have the opportunity to make their holiday even more sustainable. For short stays, you can cancel room cleaning and receive a piece of happiness as a thank you. It is not only valuable for our guests, but also valuable for nature, as it saves resources, water and energy.
