Muster family -
the hosts

since 2009

At the Ratscher Landhaus, warmth, enjoyment and genuine Styrian joie de vivre take top priority.

As a host family, it is a matter close to our hearts to provide you with unforgettable moments - with excellent wine, regional cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere. Together with our dedicated team, we ensure that you feel welcome and comfortable from the very first minute.

A house that has grown with us - always changing, always with love for South Styria.

It all began in 2009 with a bed & breakfast with 17 rooms and a small Café – the first step towards independence. It was clear from the start: the only constant is change.

The Natural Pool was created in 2012, followed by the local traditional restaurant. In 2017, we expanded our hotel with 12 rooms and a hotel lobby. In 2021, we added 18 more rooms, a Wellness Area, the Panoramic – Restaurant and a new kitchen.

Today, we are happy with what we have: 42 lovingly designed rooms, a relaxing Wellness Area, a varied culinary offering in and around the hotel – and the greatest asset: The South Styrian Wine area with its impressive diversity.

We are growing with the region and for the region – and we look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Family insights

The visionary

I saw the light of day in the vineyards of Leutschach in 1979. I spent my childhood at my parents’ Muster-Poschgan Winery.

After attending tourism school in Bad Gleichenberg, I worked in western Austria for a few seasons. But at some point I got the wanderlust and moved to Chicago for 1.5 years, where I worked in large-scale catering, kitchen and service.
My love of home brought me back to Austria. I spent the winters in Mühlbach am Hochkönig and the summers at home on the family winery! But the time had come for me to settle down, so we moved. We found this beautiful piece of land in South Styria, here in Ehrenhausen.

I bought this house with Michaela in 2009. Yes, that took a lot of courage. We didn’t inherit the Ratscher Landhaus or take it over from the family, no, we bought it from scratch. Challenges make you grow and so our motto in life has become: “The only constant in our lives is change!”

I can live out my passion for wine perfectly in this beautiful region. As a result, more and more bottles of wine accumulate in my cellar every year. This has earned me the title of “wine spinner”, that means crazy wine guy!

It makes us happy when we can put a smile on our guests’ faces and create something new for them.

From the alpine pasture to South Styria

I was born in 1980 in St. Kathrein am Offenegg in Eastern Styria. I grew up on a farm and discovered my love of gastronomy at the age of 16.

I gained my experience at home and abroad, from 5-star hotels and luxury cruise ships to ski lodges, many things have shaped me over the years. Love brought me to beautiful South Styria and in 2008 Andreas and I got married. Since September 2009 we have been the owners and your hosts at Ratscher Landhaus in beautiful South Styria!

As the go-to girl for everything, I initially worked in the kitchen. I really enjoyed baking cakes and creating sweets during my apprenticeship as a cook and restaurant specialist. The office, marketing and organisation in the house are now my main tasks. Apprentice training is particularly important to me. My motto: “If we want skilled workers, we have to train them!” Gastrovibes, is showing its success! The little surprises in and around the house, life wisdom and sensuality are all written by me. I hope you enjoy them!

The sporty one

I was born on 22 December 2009.While my parents were buying the house, I was already waiting in my mum’s belly.

To follow in my parents’ footsteps, I’ve been attending school at the tourism school in Bad Gleichenberg since autumn 2024 and I really like it. When there’s a lot going on, I like to lend a hand – whether in the kitchen or in service. My favourite thing to do is make pancakes, but I also enjoy helping out at the barbecue. In my free time, I like to be outdoors – cycling and sport are among my favourite hobbies.

I would like to follow in my parents’ footsteps and run the Ratscher Landhaus together with my brother. There are two of us – and luckily there’s enough work and space here for both of us!

The man of pleasure!

On 20 December 2011, I completed the family bond. I am now 13 years old and a foodie. Mum’s cake tastes best to me. I like to help her with cooking and baking. That’s fun for me.

Nature and good food are important to me! My path is clear: I want to become a chef! I really enjoy cooking and I’m particularly fussy when it comes to spaghetti bolognese – the sauce has to be perfectly flavoured. Mum says I have a good nose and that certainly helps me in the kitchen. Even though I don’t necessarily love vegetables, I like helping my grandma in Kathrein in the garden. It’s exciting to see how everything grows and thrives. For me, vinegar is a must for salads – the more acidic, the better!

There has to be a bit of action too: I think Dad’s champagne sabre is really cool and I can even sabre champagne bottles myself. My goal is clear – I’m going to be a chef! At the moment I’m still at secondary school in Gamlitz, but after that I want to realise my dream.
