Career taster day
for pupils
Gastrovibes - Discover the world of gastronomy up close
At Gastrovibes, students experience the world of catering up close. They cook, serve and discover the diversity of tourism - a practical opportunity to familiarise themselves with careers in the industry.
Lively, varied and creative - that's gastronomy!
In keeping with this motto, we invite the 2nd or 3rd classes of secondary schools in the area to a professional taster day in the catering industry – cooking, serving and eating together, including a tour of our hotel in South Styria.
In cooperation with several training companies in the region, who take turns at the cooker or behind the bar for the kids.
Who is involved as a training company?
Thomas Ranninger – Gasthof Sauer – Strass
Markus Sattler – Restaurant Sattlerhof – Gamlitz
Daniel Rauter – Landgut am Pössnitzberg – Leutschach
Georg Denk -& Philip Berwanger – Ratscher Landhaus – Ehrenhausen
Johann Wratschko – Landgasthof Wratschko – Gamlitz
How career guidance in the catering industry works up close
20-25 children and three chefs cook together to experience gastronomy with all their senses.
A whole day dedicated to promoting young talent: Michaela & Andreas Muster, owners of the Ratscher Landhaus, invite local secondary school pupils to their oasis of pleasure in the middle of the Styrian vineyards. The aim is to awaken a passion for a career in tourism – a day full of gastro vibes that should make them curious to find out more. The passion is awakened and perhaps also professional ambitions in one or the other. Several training companies support the project and show how lively and varied work in the kitchen and service can be.
First of all, you wander through the hotel from the rooms to the Wellness Area to gain an insight. Then a 3-course menu is cooked. 3 professional chefs guide the students, the cooking is done by the kids. The girls and boys are always enthusiastic about what they are doing.
Michaela talks a lot about careers in the catering industry, Andreas Muster about his love of wine.
The girls and boys are allowed to lend a hand themselves. Cooking, laying tables, mixing non-alcoholic cocktails and much more. A colourful morning with lots of gastronomic impressions. They then chat a lot over a meal together.
"Gastronomy is only tangible if you experience it for yourself. We wanted to give the children this opportunity. And who knows: maybe we were able to awaken gastronomy vibes in one or two of the young talents."
Michaela's summary of the Gastrovibes:
Revolutionising the outdated image of gastronomy
Michaela Muster doesn’t just want to inspire young talent for the industry. She has also taken up the cause of revolutionising the industry’s reputation. She wants to put the catering industry back in the right light for young people in the long term: “Our industry still has an image from times gone by. Very good pay depending on qualifications, regular rosters and a relaxed atmosphere are standard here today.”
The many benefits in the catering industry, such as wellness use, free food and drinks – especially in the current wave of inflation – and numerous further training opportunities should also be mentioned. Although this is standard in many businesses – including the Ratscher Landhaus – many people don’t realise it. As an award-winning training company in Styria with 8 apprentices in the house, it shows that Gastrovibes is successful.

Advantages of a job in tourism
One of the biggest advantages of having a business open seven days a week has just been demonstrated again over a long weekend: flexible working hours on the one hand and having time off when others are working on the other. Instead of being stuck in traffic jams with the masses, waiting for a free table in a restaurant or paying the higher prices at the weekend, people work in the catering trade and then enjoy their days off during the week. Relax and unwind. Time is so limited and so valuable. So let’s make the most of it and organise it efficiently and leisurely at the same time. Flexibility is desirable and feasible.
Not to mention free drinks and food, use of the Wellness Area, discounted spa and massage offers and much more!
