The power bean from South Styria
The scarlet runner bean is not only an eye-catcher, but also a true nutritional miracle. This impressive bean, which we affectionately call the “Styrian national treasure”, is particularly rich in protein, fibre and vitamins. It is perfect for a balanced, plant-based diet. Traditionally, scarlet runner beans are served in salads, but they also develop their full flavour in hearty stews or as a side dish. At Ratscher Landhaus, we appreciate the versatility of the scarlet runner bean and incorporate it into many of our dishes – why not try our scarlet runner bean salad with seed oil, a Styrian culinary delight!
Crisp all-rounders
When you think of Styria, you immediately think of pumpkins. But pumpkin seeds are not only a star in the kitchen in autumn. These little powerhouses are full of vitamins, minerals and valuable fatty acids. The high amounts of magnesium and zinc in particular make pumpkin seeds the perfect snack between meals or as a topping in salads and soups. At Ratscher Landhaus, we like to serve them roasted over crispy salads or as a refined ingredient in our bread or simply to nibble on in between meals – a highlight of Styrian cuisine.

Known and loved all over the world, Styrian pumpkin seed oil is a true flagship of the region. With its nutty aroma and deep green colour, it adds a special touch to any dish. But the oil can do more than just taste good: it is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants that support the heart and circulation. Here at the Ratscher Landhaus, your accommodation in South Styria, we use pumpkin seed oil not only in classic salad dressings, but also in creative combinations – for example in desserts or as the icing on the cake on savoury soups. Start with a choice of two delicious starters and a hearty soup, followed by one of the three main courses, which vary according to seasonal and regional ingredients. Whether you are a meat lover, vegetarian or a connoisseur of regional cuisine, you are guaranteed to find something to suit your taste. The menu is rounded off with fresh salad from the buffet, a tempting dessert and a selection of fine cheeses. This turns every evening into a culinary experience that brings the day to a perfect close.
