Schilcher is made exclusively from the Blauer Wildbacher grape variety. Its trademark is the bright pink to ruby red colour and its fresh, lively character. In South Styria, Wildbacher can be found in different styles:

  • As a powerful red wine – deep dark, with spicy aromas and fine tannins.
  • As a classic Schilcher rosé – Fruity, with pronounced acidity and notes of redcurrant, rosehip and cranberry.
  • As a sparkling Schilcher sparkling wine – Lively, with an elegant perlage and fresh fruit.

What does a Wildbacher or Schilcher from South Styria taste like?

Schilcher is known for its fresh, racy acidity and its intense fruitiness. In South Styria, the somewhat milder climate often results in more harmonious varieties with a finer acid structure.
