A must in South Styria

A visit to a wine tavern on the wine route

A tip for a wonderful culinary experience that can be combined with an excursion is a detour to one of the surrounding Buschenschank (Traditional Wine Tavern), where the gentle wind rustles through the vines as a friendly companion. You can set off on foot or by bike directly from the Ratscher Landhaus. Regional specialities such as pumpkin seed oil, beatle beans and Styrian horseradish are just some of the many specialities that await you at your destination. The aroma of warm bread, savoury cheese and freshly baked Buchteln fills the air and in a convivial atmosphere, the sparkling reflections of light from the glasses fall on the wooden floor of the picturesque terraces until late in the evening.

Around our hotel in Ratsch an der Weinstraße, charming wine-growing villages are also waiting to be explored. For example, visit the idyllic market town of Ehrenhausen with its imposing castle or the picturesque Gamlitz – both are just a ten-minute drive away or can be reached on foot in around an hour and a half.

Cultural & scenic diversity in the region

Golden rays of sunshine bathe the landscape in a deep, warm light. Delicate grasses and fragrant fruit trees peek out from between the vines and the gentle wind carries the sweet scent of flowers across the land. Our region is characterised not only by its lush vineyards and blossoming sunflower fields, but also by its diverse landscape. The 25-kilometre-long South Styrian Wineroad is just one of the many popular destinations for Cycling Tours and Hiking Tours. But there is also plenty to discover off the beaten track. For example, nostalgic schnapps distilleries, the Herzerl Straße, the border table, Austria’s largest vinegar barrel cellar and the world’s largest grape. Just like Tuscany, South Styria hides a rich cultural heritage. And it’s breathtaking, mozzafiato!

Mediterranean ambience in southern Styrian Tuscany

Let your mind wander with a glass of Muskateller – and dip your toes in our natural pond, where the golden glow of the sun is reflected in the water well into the balmy evening hours. It is precisely this harmonious combination of nature and slowing down that gives the region its Tuscan atmosphere without losing its uniqueness. Whether you are a foodie, wine lover or nature enthusiast: on holiday in Styrian Tuscany, you can enjoy a time-out that is nowhere else quite like it. Dolce Vita in the Tuscany of southern Styria

C’è vino? Of course! With us, you can savour the sweet life. Our Tuscany in Styria is not only famous for its traditional viticulture, but also for the individuality of each winemaker. Varietal diversity of the regional wines is a top priority: from fragrant, fruity young wines, the so-called “Junker”, to quality white wines typical of the region, such as Sauvignon Blanc. The soils on which they grow are as varied as the excellent vines – from slate to marl to limestone. Excellent Mediterranean conditions contribute to the special flavour of South Styrian wines and delight novices and connoisseurs alike. Whether at one of the neighbouring wineries or at our Ratscher Landhaus – a Wine Tasting in South Styria is a heartfelt recommendation. And while you sit together, you will forget the time. In addition to winegrowing, southern Styrian Tuscany is also famous for its first-class cuisine, which truly emphasises the sweet life. The famous Tuscan “Bistecca alla Fiorentina”, a Florentine steak, is replaced at our restaurant in South Styria by a crispy Styrian Backhend – crispy fried chicken, which you can also enjoy on a picnic. A fine recommendation that is particularly suitable in spring, on summer holidays in Styria and in an autumnal atmosphere directly in the vineyards.
