"In vino veritARS"

Fire pictures and collages versus art photography.

The two artists Melitta Winkler (*1956, Linz) and Johann Gaugg (*1956, Weiz) deal with themes of life and nature in their various phenomena and effects in their artistic work. While Melitta’s approach in painting is abstraction, the use of experimental techniques and materials as well as intuition, Johann expresses himself through artistic photography and discovers surprising, often overlooked places and sceneries in his regular search for motifs and traces.

The exhibition at Ratscher Landhaus opens up new perspectives on painting and photography. The appeal of Melitta Winkler and Johann Gaug’s pictorial worlds lies in discovering the universal power of nature and the potential that lies in artistic expression. Melitta’s multi-layered, captivating paintings arouse curiosity about the working process and the creation of new colours and forms. The delicate swing, the fine nuances and the interplay of newly seen motifs give Johann’s photographs a mysterious quality.

more about the artists

Painting - specialised in fire paintings!

Melitta Winkler came into contact with fine art through her grandfather. She has continued to develop her technique in training courses and workshops, learning to work with acrylic colours, rust, sand, textiles and the use of fire, and sees her works as painted stories. The moment of the unusual, the surprising, where the final picture is unpredictable until the end, always remains relevant.

Art photography

Hans Gaug began taking photographs in the 1980s and soon embarked on the path of art photography. As an autodidact, he formed his own style, moving away from the typical motifs and discovering moments of stillness and subtle aesthetics and what lies behind them. He lets the incidental speak and plays with different moments of perception. He uses superimpositions to create movement and spatiality.
